Cold wave grips higher reaches in Himachal

SHIMLA, Oct 17: Cold wave tightened its grip in the tribal areas and other higher hills of Himachal Pradesh as minimum temperature dropped further by few notches.
The high altitude tribal areas reeled under piercing cold wave conditions with mercury hovering around freezing point while mid and higher hills shivered under cold wave conditions with mercury staying 3 to 5 degree Celsius below normal.
Kalpa in tribal Kinnaur district and key tourist destination of Manali recorded minimum temperature at 6.5 degree and 2 degree below normal, respectively.
However, Keylong in tribal Lahaul and Spiti district recorded the minimum temperature at 10.9 degree, 9 degree above normal.
Solan, Chamba, Bhuntar and Sundernagar recorded a low of 10 deg, 11.3 deg, 11.4 deg and 11.6 deg respectively while Palampur and Shimla recorded minimum temperatures at 13 deg and 13.3 deg, followed by Nahan and Una 16.4 deg and Dharamsala 18 deg Celsius.
However, there was not much variation in maximum temperatures and Una was the hottest in the region with a high of 32.4 deg, followed by Bhuntar 30.5 deg, Sundernagar 29.8 deg, Nahan 27.4 deg, Dharamsala 27.2 deg, Shimla 23.3 deg and Kalpa 19.6 degree Celsius.(PTI)
