Cold weather conditions continue

Srinagar, Nov 30: Amid dry weather, freezing cold weather conditions continue unabated in Kashmir.
A Meteorological Department official said that amidst mist this morning, Srinagar recorded a low of minus 1.6°C against minus 2.2°C the previous night which was coldest so far this season. The temperature was 0.7°C below normal during this time of the year for the city.
Qazigund recorded a low of minus 1.6°C against minus 1.8°C the previous night. The temperature was 0.6°C below normal for the town.

In Pahalgam, the mercury settled at minus 3.4°C against minus 4.2°C the previous night and it was normal for the resort for this time of the year.
Kokernag recorded a low of minus 0.3°C against 0.1°C the previous night and it was 0.1°C above normal for the place.
Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 1.0°C against minus 1.5°C against previous night. It was 2.1°C above normal for the skiing resort.
In Kupwara town, the mercury settled at minus 2.5°C against minus 2.4°C the previous night. It was 1.4°C below normal for the place.
Leh recorded minus 6.8°C, Kargil minus 10.7°C and mercury in Drass settled at minus 9.6°C. The MeT department has forecast mainly dry weather till December 7.
In the meantime, parents urged authorities to prepone winter vacations for at least up to 10th standard in wake of the freezing cold conditions and absence of heating arrangements in educational institutions of the Valley.
The winter vacations up to 5th standard are from tomorrow while for middle classes it is from December 12 and for other classes up to 12th standard it is from December 19.
The parents said that there are no heating arrangements in the educational institutions, government or private alike.
“We request authorities to prepone the vacations. The weather conditions are extremely harsh for students to cope up with given the fact there are no heating arrangements in almost all schools, be it government or private. It had led to cold related ailments in children,” a parent said.
