Coldest night in Srinagar

SRINAGAR, Nov 17: Kashmir valley is reeling under intense cold with night temperatures dipping several degrees below normal and Srinagar recording coldest night of the season at minus 2.7 degree Celsius.
Srinagar today recorded the coldest night of the season as the temperature dropped to minus 2.7 degrees Celsius while Banihal town was the coldest in Jammu region at 2.5 degrees. For Srinagar normal night temperature for this time of the season is one degree Celsius.
A Meteorological Department official said that at minus 2.7 degrees Celsius, Srinagar recorded the coldest night temperature of this season so far. “The minimum temperature was minus 4.0 in Pahalgam and minus 0.6 in Gulmarg today”, the official said.
Leh was, however, the coldest town in the State where the night temperature dropped to minus 7.8 degrees Celsius.
“In the Jammu region, Jammu city recorded 9.3, Katra town 11.3, Batote 7.7, Banihal 2.5 and Bhaderwah 3.0 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperatures on Thursday,” the official added.
However, day temperature at most of the places in Kashmir was above normal. Srinagar recorded 15.1 degree Celsius while normal day temperature for this time off the year is 15 0 degree Celsius, Qazigund 16.3 degree Celsius, Pahalgam 13.8 degree Celsius, Kupwara 15.6 degree Celsius, Kokernag 15.3 degree Celsius, Gulmarg 09.0 degree Celsius and Leh 09.3 degree Celsius.
The present cold and dry weather conditions would continue in the state during the next 48 hours.
