Collapsed healthcare

Sir,
This refers to the eye opening must read piece of writing by Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed “AIIMS in Jammu-Collapsed healthcare, shamed hippocratic oath prime reasons”, in DE dated Aug. 3, 2015, I reiterate the following points:
After going through the twin anecdotes mentioned there, I observe that more than AIIMS we first need the right attitudes of our doctors and medical staff towards the plight of the patients and their families. Even a full fledged AIIMS shall be of no use if their attitude remains the same. A newly appointed doctor/other staff enters the profession with lot of enthuse to perform, and serve the suffering lot, but soon becomes the part of carefree easy going to the point theoretical approach already existing in the system.
The next important observation from the write-up is that all the influential people are flying out of J&K to get specialised treatment for them as well as their families. Has anybody thought why? I don’t think the reason is lack of infrastructure or something like that. Our SKIIMS in Kashmir is second to none other top institutes in the country so far as technology and infrastructure are concerned. And every kind of life saving and treatment facility is available in GMC Jammu also. The reason is again attitude, will and confidence on the part of the so called “next to God people”.
So establishing the AIIMS shall not be as difficult as changing the attitude of people manning that institute thereafter. Let us ponder over the causes of such attitude and find remedies there for, so that the building, machineries and infrastructure of the “so-hard-to-get” AIIMS in Jammu do not go waste.
Yours etc….
