JAMMU, Apr 12: Under the initiative of interdepartmental interaction and promotion of literary activities on the campus, the Centre for Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy, University of Jammu organized a literary function by releasing a poetry book “Shyamali”, written by Dr Ashok Gupta, former faculty at the Department of Hindi.
The book was released by Prof Naresh Padha, Dean Academic Affairs; Prof Sucheta Pathania, Dean Faculty of Arts and Prof Rajni Bala, HoD Hindi.
The book contains 77 poems related to Indian culture, Philosophy, nature, place of the women in Indian society and on the local land scape.
The faculty members, Dr Parshotam, Dr Pawan Khajuria, Sheikh Mohd Kalyan and Dr Sanjeev Bhasin gave their comments on the book and appreciated the efforts of Dr Ashok Gupta to promote those aspects which have not been highlighted and valued in the present day life. Dr Ashok Gupta threw light on highlights of the book and mentioned the people and the situations which have influenced his life and work.
Prof Naresh Padha, who was chief guest on the occasion, appreciated the efforts of the teacher who contributed after his retirement by setting an example for others and also brought laurels to the University. He encouraged retired and in-service teachers to publish their research on local aspects by extending financial support to them under publication grant. The University of Jammu is shortly establishing the Directorate of Hindi to promote the Hindi language in the region, he informed.
Prof Sucheta Pathania, guest of honour, also appreciated the efforts of the author and related his work with English writers.
Prof Rajni Bala, HoD Hindi, critically evaluated the work and highlighted that the book contains some new words and concepts which need to be further worked by the fellow scholars.
Introduction of the author was made by Prof Jasbir Singh and the formal vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Panu Sharma while the proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr Shallu Sehgal.
Subhash Langeh, Sunder Chandan, Chanan Kohli, Mukta Nagar, Vijay Khajuria have contributed to the structuring and publication of the book.
