JAMMU, Dec 7: Member of Parliament, (Rajya Sabha), Shamsher Singh Manhas today said that societies across the globe should work for empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality for sustainable development so as to leave no one behind while promoting resilient society for all.
Manhas was addressing a function organised by “Louis Braille Memorial Residential School for sightless girls” here. The school is run by National Federation of the Blind, New Delhi and recognised by School Education Department J&K. Manhas was the chief guest on the occasion. He was accompanied by Mayor, JMC Chander Mohan Gupta, Deputy Mayor, Poornima Sharma and secretary, JMC, Sunaina Mehta as guest of hounours.
During the function specially abled children (Divyangs) showcased their talent in a delightful manner under different categories, with lot of enthusiasm and confidence embedded in the acts.
While speaking on the occasion, Manhas complimented the staff and management of the school for such efforts as well as applauded the efforts of children who besides being specially abled put on a spectacular show which is highly appreciable.
He said Government, specially abled persons, their representative organizations, academic institutions and the private sector need to work as a team to achieve the sustainable development goals.
He also added while quoting UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres that “let us reaffirm our commitment to work together for a better world inclusive, equitable and sustainable for everyone where the rights of people with disabilities are fully realised”.
