JAMMU, Sept 26: The college going students especially females are facing transport problems as the buses and mini buses refuse to giver lift to them on various routes of Jammu during college hours.
A group of students mostly females said that the buses and mini buses refuse to give them lift during college hours for last couple of days due to which they missed their classes also.
Raman Kumari, daughter of Mohal Lal a student of Degree part first said that for last some days they have been denied the lift by passenger buses and mini buses on Akhnoor route during the college hours due to which they missed the lecturers in classes.
She said the problem has mainly surfaced after the Government issued new notification regarding traffic rules. She said since then college goers are facing problem as the bus and mini bus operators deny lift to them. She said this is mostly because the students have been given concession in bus fares and transporters instead of giving lift to students board other passengers to get full fare from them and avert overloading also.
Same were the views of Rupali a BA second year student from Patoli Brahmana. They in an appeal to Governor Satya Pal Malik urged him to issue strict directives to the transporters in this regard. They said that with enforcement of new rules the student community has been put to problems and in case the transporters deny lift to them in private buses and mini buses they can’t reach their colleges in time and this way miss lectures which will hit their studies worst.
Terming it a genuine problem Mohan Lal one of the parent said that Government should take cognizance of the same failing which students are left with no option but to come on streets. He said this problem is faced by students on other routes also.?
