College Teachers Association holds meet

JAMMU, Mar 31: J&K College Teachers Association held a meeting under the chairmanship of its newly elected president Dr Sanjay Verma to discuss the arbitrary election duties assigned to the college teachers.
While speaking, Dr Verma said that there is resentment among the college teachers regarding assignment of election duties to Asstt/Associate Professors of Government college teachers in general elections in violation of the Election Commission ref no 576/3/2004/JS-II dated 09-08-2004, whereby the Chief Election Commission of India has directed the Chief Electoral Officers of all the States to assign duties to the college teachers taking into account the seniority of the officials.
In most of the case, the supervisors, sector magistrates and micro observers are far below the rank/designation, pay scale of Asstt/Associate Professors, which is highly humiliating and deplorable, he added.
He informed that returning officers have assigned duties to Asstt and Associate Professors both falling in ‘A’ class officers, simply ignoring the designation, seniority, pay scale and class in flagrant violation of the direction of the Election Commission of India.
It was decided in the meeting that representation be made to the State Election Commission so that immediate action in this regard is initiated and Asstt/Associate Professors are assigned election duties matching with their status.
