The recent column titled “The Colonial Mindset” by Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat (Excelsior Nov 6th) is an eye opener for our our bureaucrats and politicians who treat people as second class citizens. The Government officials are public servants but they hardly act that way. Most of the Government employees have a feeling that they are kings and majaharajas. It is very much true that Government officials do not address citizens with sir or dear sir when some official letters are exchanged between Govt office and private citizen or when the reply under Right to Information Act is provided. The Chief Secretary must ensure all the official communication between citizens and Govt officials is done as per the norms set by the Government. It must be made clear to all Govt officials that they should address citizens with sir as is being done in the central Govt offices.
