JAMMU, Dec 21: In connection with the ongoing Christmas celebrations, a colourful procession was taken out this afternoon here today.
Demonstrating the unity of the Christian community, thousands belonging to different Churches participated in the rally, which has become an annual feature for the past 40 years.
The procession that began from Residency Road passed through Raghunath Bazaar, Shalamar, Parade, Kachi Chawni, Link Road via Super Bazaar, Kanak Mandi and culminated at Shaheedi Chowk.
The procession included several tableaux depicting different scenes from the holy bible showcasing the birth and deeds of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace and his teachings of love, harmony, peace and brotherhood among people.
Santa Claus, angels, tableaus with King Herod, soldiers of Roman Army on horses and the three camel-borne kings, who visited baby Jesus at his birth were special attractions in the procession.
Rev FR Kuriakose T, the priest in-charge of St Mary’s Church Gandhi Nagar and organizer of the rally inaugurated the procession in presence of several catholic priests, Rev Udhay Singh of CNI, Pastors Shoukat Peter, Antony, Georgekutty, Rev Nizar, Rev John Penny besides a number of community leaders, SM Gill, Ex-MLC and Nicodeamus and Feastus Sotra.
The leaders of difference Christian organizations joined the procession. The community prayed for the well being of the citizens of India as well as J&K and also offered special prayers for peace and harmony in the State.
