Combating terror

During his visit to New Delhi on the occasion of Republic Day parade, the US and India pledged to jointly fight terrorism. Obama had even named one or two terrorist organizations that were responsible for export of terror menace. Everybody knows that Pakistan is the home of most dreaded terrorist organizations some of which have been banned by the US State Department. The resolve of two nations to meet the challenge is now taking practical shape. It is to choke the known and unknown financial channels of terror.  The agreement came at a meeting of the 5th Indo-US Economic and Financial Partnership dialogue, which was attended by the US Treasury Secretary Jacob J Lew and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. Besides Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed’s Jammat-ud-Dawa (JuD), the two nations identified Jaishe-e-Mohammad, the Haqqani Network, D-Company, Al Qaida and ISIL among terror networks whose funding have to be cut off.
Most of these terror groups are based in Pakistan and those like Al Qaida and ISIL which are not exactly based in Pakistan have strong linkages with Pakistan-based terrorist organizations. Pakistan is also targeted by the terrorists like TTP but at the same time she is extending full support to such of the home-bred terror groups like LeT and JeM as they have the avowed agenda of targeting India. Thus Pakistan has adopted double standards of treating terrorism on her soil. She has ordered military action against the terrorist groups that challenge her existence and at the same time she is fully supporting those who unleash terror against India. The US has recognized the hand of Pakistan based LeT in Mumbai carnage as well as the role of Dawood Ibrahim’s D-Company in financing Pakistan based terrorists. Cooperation between  India and US to choke financial channels of terror will, in due course of time, expand and all freedom loving countries will join the campaign to deliver humanity of the scourge of terrorism.
