Come out with clear policy against corruption: Vakil

JAMMU, Mar 12:  While appreciating the reports about measures being taken by  Governor against tainted bureaucrats and corrupt officers, former Minister Abdul Gani Vakil today said that more effective steps are required to be taken against the epidemic of bribery and graft.
In a press statement here, Mr Vakil referred to the failure of (SAC) State Accountability Commission for political and other interference. He questioned the bonafides of successive Governments in the State to eradicate rampant corruption all over here. Politicians have amassed immense wealth which is far beyond their ostensible sources of income they must account for the illegitimate assets and properties which belong to the poor tax payers and depredated public.
With the support of politicians, bureaucrats too, have illegal estates and landed properties in the State and the outside.  Vakil appealed the Governor tocome out with a clear policy against corruption and must activate their prosecutors and advocates to act against the wrongdoers and culprits who deserve to be brought to book at any cost.
Mr Vakil also said that there are dozens of cases against politicians and bureaucrats in State Accountability Comm-ission which have been stayed without further proceedings. He said Government must get the stays vacated and start proceedings in the cases with the help of Government advocates to prove its intentions.
He said that keeping in view the failure of all constituted anti- graft instructions, formation of independent commission headed by sitting High Court judge to enquire into massive irregularity and bunglings of bureaucrats and politicians is necessary.
“Let people know their known source of income and put the facts and figures in public domain,” Vakil said adding that  need of hour was to do the same because the menace of corruption has now reached to a level where it has endangered the coexistence and harmony amongst the various sections in the society and same needs to be tackled seriously. Any further delay, he said, would tantamount to Government’s inability to fight corruption.
