JAMMU, Feb 18: Hindi adaptation of Jatinder Sharma’s original Dogri play ‘Shooting’ was staged by Amateur Theatre Group on sixth day of ongoing Abhinavagupta Natyamahostav, at the Abhinav Theatre, here today.
Based on personal experiences of Jatinder Sharma, the well known actor/director/ writer and playwright, who had the distinction of being the ‘hero’ of first Dogri film “Gallaan Hoyiaan Bitiyaan” made in 1966, the play is a comic take on what goes behind the scene during the shooting of films.
Directed by Mohit Mehra, the play ‘Shooting’ revolves around the protagonist heroine ‘Mala’, who is beautiful but self centered, cold hearted and a shrewd individual. All the male actors, director, cameraman, even the landlord and young servant are attracted to her. But worldly-wise Mala who has an eye on the big fish; the financier of the film, cleverly snubs all of them. Production Manager Sharma Ji was first to be smitten by her charms and the other male actors followed suit. Many interesting and amusing incidents take place during the course of the play.
Today’s presentation marked by competent performance of team of young actors who successfully kept up the racy pace of the unfolding events with perfect sense of timing in terms of delivery of dialogs, body movements and gestures and improvisations, was an entertaining affair and enjoyed by house-full audience.
The artists who performed in the play were Sandeep Verma as Sharma ji, Gaurav Taroch as Misar, Tovin Kumar as Nanak Singh, Ankit Sharma as Omi, Mohit Mehra as Sukhdev, Vivek Sangotra as Bishan, Azem Wani as Inderjeet, Love Anand as Shyam Kumar, Mohit Singh Chib as Pradeep Kumar and Shilaksha Sharma as Mala.
Tomorrow the festival will conclude with Shivani Cultural Society’s presentation of ‘Qissa Khawani’-the dramatized presentation based on portions taken from well known stories of famous writers like Sadat Hassan Manto, Hardeep Singh Deep and Khalid Hussain.
