Comm to look into Sonamarg constructions

Excelsior Correspondent
Srinagar, June 22: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today said a Committee would be constituted to identify the reasons for the present mess at Sonamarg tourist resort that has been turned into a concrete jungle.
Responding to the concern of the legislators over vandalising of the tourist resort of Sonamarg, Mehbooba in her reply to grants said a Committee would be constituted to identify the reasons for the present mess at Sonamarg.
Earlier, MLA Mian Altaf raised the issue of Sonamarg turned into concrete jungle. He said that the Master Plan was revised by the PDP-Congress Government, a decade ago and it has led to ruining the tourist place.
It may be mentioned here that early this month Excelsior carried a detailed story on illegal constructions in Sonamarg. The meadows of the place have been turned into concrete jungle with State Government giving unlimited permissions for constructions that have been violated grossly with the help of top officials.
A detailed inquiry report with photographic evidence (around 500) prepared by the Tourism department in 2013 about gross violations of building permissions in Sonamarg is lying in Civil Secretariat for last three years. Since politicians and bureaucrats are allegedly involved in facilitating such illegal construction, no action has been taken after the report was submitted to the Government.
The report besides violations of building permissions by around 50 hoteliers also gives list of 100 structures including shops and hotels that have been built over the years without any permission.
