HYDERABAD, July 21: The Commerce Secretary-level talks between India and Pakistan, which was scheduled for this month, is now expected to be held in September.
“Pakistan wanted postponement of the meeting. Hopefully, Commerce Secretaries of both countries would meet in September. Hopefully, there will be good agreement between India and Pakistan,” Commerce Secretary S R Rao said here.
He was talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function of Pharmexcil and Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
The Commerce Secretary-level talks started in November last year.
In a joint press statement of India and Pakistan commerce ministers on April 13, both the sides had expressed a desire that discussions may continue at the official level for possibilities of opening more land customs stations between both the countries.
It was also agreed that discussions would continue at the official level to draw a roadmap for further reductions in the SAFTA-sensitive lists.
On the issues related to trade in petroleum products and electricity, ministers had expressed the desire that concerned officials of both the countries should fast track the ongoing process. (PTI)
