JAMMU, June 9: Labour Commissioner, Dr Abdul Rashid, chaired a meeting to review functioning of the department.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Labour Commissioner Jammu Ankur Mahajan, Inspector of Factories Raj Kumar Bhagat, Atam Dev Singh Additional Provident Fund Commissioner and All Assistant Labour Commissioners of Jammu Division.
The Commissioner emphasised the need to provide hassle free services to the employers so that they deal with the issues of the deprived labour class efficiently and neither the employer nor the labour class is exploited. He asked the department to be prompt and responsive towards providing speedy justice to the deserving and asked the officers to perform their duties in a transparent manner.
The Additional Provident Fund Commissioner informed that all the cases brought into the notice of the Commissioner have been resolved and appropriate action has been taken.
The issues of pendency in court cases under various Labour Laws were discussed and it was emphasised to expedite the disposal of cases for timely justice. It was highlighted that the department has to act as an instrument in prohibition and subsequent eradication of the menace of child labour.
The issues of migrant workers, implementation of minimum wages act, compensation to the employees, shops and establishment act, Factories act, staff shortage, infrastructural development were also raised.
The officers also apprised the chair of various issues, problems faced by them in execution of Labour Laws governed by the Centre and State.
