Commissioner Secretary PHE reviews restoration works in border areas

JAMMU, Oct 12: Commissioner Secretary, PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control reviewed the progress of restoration of flood damaged works in border areas of Samba and Kathua districts.
Commissioner Secretary Pawan Kotwal along with Chief Engineer, Irrigation and Flood Control Department and RTIC Jammu inspected various restoration works which have been taken up by the departments to protect the lands/property of the farmers and infrastructure of the Department.
Commissioner Secretary Inspected the Balole Syphon of Main Tawi Canal of RTIC which was damaged partially due to recent floods of September 2014. Commissioner Secretary also instructed the officers to issue notices to the person if any body has encroached Government land. All efforts of the Department should be made not to encroach up on the Government land and action should be quickly taken.
Commissioner Secretary also inspected the damaged spot at BSF Post Kesokumor village near Ramgarh. The already constructed bund was washed away during recent floods and lot of damages to the crops, houses and BSF posts have taken place.
As per direction of Commissioner Secretary a detail project report for providing protection to the fields, BSF posts and to plug the breaches has been framed amounting to Rs 49 crores and sent to CWC for approval.
Commissioner Secretary issued instructions to the sub-ordinate staff to take up the works of already approved projects for Rs 8 crores under River Management for Border Areas immediately.
He also inspected protection works which were in progress on right side of Ujh River at Dhangdevpur and Chabbechack costing to Rs 67 lakh and Rs 77 lakh respectively and also inspected the type of crates/ gabbions being used for these works to provide protection to the damage fields and to reclaim the land.
In the end and Commissioner Secretary emphasized that the Quality of the works be maintained at all costs and these works should be completed well within the stipulated time period of the SDRF.
The Commissioner Secretary also reviewed of progress of other protection works which have been also taken up Billawar/ Basohli and Kathua areas and ask to complete at an earliest.
