JAMMU, Apr 16: The State Government today accorded sanction for re-constitution of the State Level Committee for Slaughter Houses.
The committee, headed by Administrative Secretary Housing and Urban Development Department, will recommend modernization of old Slaughter Houses and relocation of those located within or in close proximity of a residential area.
It will identify and prepare a list of all the Slaughter Houses located within the local self government and call for the reports on the functioning of these for compliance of the relevant applicable laws
The Committee will also carry out surprise and random inspections of Slaughter Houses regularly and to issue directions for compliance of the recommendations that may be made by it.
It will accord final approval for licensing Slaughter Houses to the local self Government and identify the unlicensed Slaughter Houses in the region for which help of the District Magistrate and other law enforcement may be taken.
Altaf Hussain, District and Session Judge (Retd), is convener of this committee and its members include Labour Commissioner J&K, IGP Jammu/ Kashmir, Member Secretary State Pollution Control Board, Director Urban Local Bodies Jammu/ Kashmir, Director Health Service Jammu/ Kashmir, Director Animal Husbandry Department Jammu/ Kashmir, Director Sheep Husbandry Jammu/ Kashmir, Commissioner Municipal Corporation Jammu/ Kashmir and Chairman of the respective Municipal Committee.
