Committee seeks details of deaths in SKIMS, SMGS

SRINAGAR, Aug 3: A meeting of the Committee of Legislative Assembly constituted to examine the cause of alarming increase in the death of patients in SKIMS, Srinagar and SMGS Hospital (Paediatrics), Jammu today sought detailed reports about such death incidents from Secretary Health and Medical Education Department during January 2011 to July 2012 for its scrutiny.
The Committee, which met here under its chairmanship of MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia threadbare examined the cause of alarming increase in the deaths of patients in SKIMS, Srinagar and SMGS Hospital Jammu besides functioning of these organizations.
Legislators, Aijaz Ahmad Jan, Mohammad Irfan Shah, Ashok Kumar, Ch. Zulfkar Ali, Abdul Haq Khan, Er. Abdul Rashid and Peer Aafaq Ahmad gave their valuable suggestions for overall improvement in these institutions. The panel decided that it will conduct on-the-spot inspections to these hospitals shortly.
Senior officers of Assembly Secretariat including Deputy Secretary Naseem Jan attended the meeting.
