‘Communal polarisation is the real strategy of BJP: Jairam Ramesh

BANGALORE, Oct 24:  Senior Congress leader and Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh today claimed that communal polarisation is the real strategy of BJP in the run up for the 2014 Lok Sabha election.

Addressing a press conference here, he said there was no direct fight between Congress and BJP in the next Lok Sabha election since it (BJP) existed in only seven States including Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat. Only Congress was fighting at national level and has to fight against regional parties in rest of the State,he claimed.

Mr Ramesh reiterated that the fight was between Congress and RSS since the Sangh Parivar is putting its ideology through BJP.

He alleged that because of insecurity complex the BJP had projected an individual as its prime ministerial candidate and asserted that there was no need for Congress to project anybody since it was functioning in a democratic way and under the norms only elected representatives select the new leader. ‘We are projecting Congress and we don’t see the need for any individual to be projected. Moreover, empowering the people, positive and forward looking is the main agenda of our party in the next election to the Lok Sabha,’ he added.

Mr Ramesh said this was for the first time an individual had been projected as prime ministerial candidate. Earlier elections were fought in India by political parties and not  on any individual Contest between Ideology, parties, visions  of the past and future.

Declining to name government in power, Mr Ramesh said during last six year the performance of Karnataka was worst under Mahatma National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme. However,  the present Chief Minister had assured that things would be set right.

Detailing the Congress led UPA Government’s populous programmes since 2004 including the latest Food Security Bill, Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, Right to Education Act, Abolition of Mannual Scavenging, Mr Ramesh said empowering the citizen with legal approach was the achievements on which people would decide in the next Lok Sabha election.

He said under Forest Right Act over 13 lakh tribals and other people living in the forest got Pattas.

Mr Ramesh said under Food Security Act Karnataka would be receiving 25 lakh tons per year as against 22 lakh tons per year received at present Food subsidy will be Rs 5800 crore per year as against Rs 4,300 crore given now.
