Compensate farmers for crop losses: Congress

Excelsior Correspondent
RAJOURI, May 10: Former MLC and chief spokesperson JKPCC Ravinder Sharma has asked the Government to compensate the farmers for the huge loss of wheat crop and demanded subsidy in the maize seeds and fertilizer, besides arranging fodder mandis.
This was stated by the former MLC while interacting with the affected farmers during his three-day tour of Sunderbani, Kalkote and Nowshera. Farmers apprised the senior Congress leader about huge loss to wheat crop due to massive untimely rains. They said besides affecting the crop yield, the rains spoiled the fodder for cattle.
Sharma said the farmers are worried a lot for the cattle and the Government should come to the aid of farmers. He questioned the much hyped ‘Fasal Bima Yojna’ and said the Government should not have any problem in giving adequate compensation to farmers.
He also demanded issuing of special seeds for growing fodder to the farmers to meet the requirements of their cattle.
