The people stated that although the building, situated in the Kangan medical zone, is fully completed, it has not been handed over to the concerned department, causing a delay in making it operational.
“The building is ready for use, but we fail to understand why it is not being made functional. There are several areas that could benefit from it, but currently, no one is addressing the matter,” said one resident, Malik Zahoor Ahmad.
He emphasized that the immediate beneficiaries of the PHC would include people from Larri, Chattergul, and other adjacent areas, as their population currently has to travel to Ganderbal or Kangan to access healthcare services.
Mudasir Ahmad, another resident who has been regularly following up on the matter with the authorities, mentioned that they, along with concerned officials, recently visited the PHC building where some works were underway.
“Even though there was ongoing work for the last phase, we were informed that the building would be made operational within a few days, as stated by the health department officials. However, we have not seen any progress so far,” he said.
He also highlighted that making the building operational would immensely benefit the locals. “Currently, people are facing issues and have to travel to receive healthcare services. Having the PHC operational would address all of their healthcare concerns.”
Officials, who preferred not to be named, contradicted this information, stating that the building is not yet complete, and there are issues that have been raised with the concerned authorities at the appropriate level.
