JAMMU, Apr 13: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sukhnandan Chowdhary today visited R.S Pura to inspect the ongoing renovation and repair works on the main Ranbir Canal and its distributaries and minor canal also.
Among others M.L.A Suchetgarh Sham Chowdhary, Superintendenting Engineer PHE Ajay Malhotra, AEE Ashok Nagrota, Sarpanch Balwinder and Sardar Gurucharn and other officers of the department accompanied the minister.
The Minister inspected the entire stretch of Ranbir canal and its distributaries upto tail end points of RS Pura and directed the concerned agencies to complete the work by April 24.
While visiting the distributory No -11 which flows from village Langotia to Bhau, the Minister directed that renovation should be completed in a time bound manner and encroachments should be removed immediately.
Expressing satisfaction over the progress of desilting works, the Minister directed the executing agencies to speed up the pace of work so that water is released in the canal at the earliest.
Interacting with the people of Mamka village, the minister appealed the people of the area to remove the garbage dump from the shoulders of the distributaries and directed the department to take action against those who indulge in such activities. He requested the locals to cooperate with Government in keeping the canals clean.
Reiterating the commitment of the Government to provide better irrigation facilities to the people of the State, the Minister exhorted upon the officers to redouble their efforts and work for the betterment of the people and any laxity in this regard would not be tolerated.
