JAMMU, July 18: In an attempt to rejuvenate the District Hospitals by Secretary, Health and Medical Education, Bhupinder Kumar, a complex knee replacement surgery was performed at Govt. Hospital Gandhi Nagar Jammu.
A young 39 years old male suffering from post traumatic Arthritis of the knee. underwent successful knee replacement. Consultant Orthopedics, Trauma & Joint replacement surgeon of the hospital, Dr. Kanav Padha said that the patient suffered an accident in 2015 for which he got operated outside J&K.
After the surgery he was not able to walk properly and had to bend his knees. He took treatment in and outside J&K but his condition got worse with time.
Considering his stiffness and severe pain, he was advised knee replacement surgery by Dr. Kanav Padha. This was a unique case, as the normal anatomy of the joint was disturbed, bone was very weak, muscles were atrophied and very stiff with chances of recurrent infections.
Surgery was successful and on the first post operative day after surgery, patient was able to bed the knee up to 90 degrees. With the help of physiotherapy, he was walking nicely with the help of walker, when the patient was discharged today.
The whole operation was done free of cost, under ABPMJAY Scheme. Dr Parveen Yograj, Medical Superintendent, Gandhi Nagar Hospital provided all assistance for the surgery.
