SRINAGAR, June 30: Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh has said that a comprehensive plan is underway to ensure the scientific management of the solid waste across the State in consonance with the environmental parameters.
The Deputy Chief Minister was speaking at a meeting convened here today to discuss the Solid Waste Management Plan for the State with special focus on twin capital cities of the State.
Commissioner Secretary, PDD, Dheeraj Gupta, Commissioner Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department, Hridesh Kumar, Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Bashir Ahmad Khan and other senior officers attended the meeting.
The representatives of IME INSOL- the company engaged to provide the required technical know-how and logistic support presented detailed power point presentation about the ventures taken in different countries with regard to the Solid Waste Management, besides the measures need to be taken to effectively manage the solid waste in the State.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that the problem of solid waste management is a modern day one which has been created due to the rapid Urbanization and further added that it needs to be addressed by adopting the latest scientific technology which would be environmental friendly. He directed the officers to work in close tandem with the technical experts of the company who have already submitted a detailed project report for the effective solid waste management so that necessary measures could be initiated.
Meanwhile, Ambassador of Republic of Slovenia, Jospeh Drofenik today called on Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh and discussed various matters related to developmental initiatives and promotion of Tourism industry in J&K.
The Deputy Chief Minister while discussing the tourism potential of the State urged the Ambassador to carry forward the message to his country, so that the misconceptions created about travelling to Kashmir in different parts of the Europe will be removed. “This will motivate tourists from Europe also to visit the picturesque State and will help to boost the economy of our State,” he added.
