SRINAGAR, Nov 19: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, V.K. Bidhuri, today assured the residents of Jammu and Kashmir that the administration is fully prepared and well-equipped to manage the challenges of the harsh winter months, emphasizing a comprehensive winter preparedness plan.
Bidhuri made these remarks during the inauguration of a week-long exhibition themed ‘Rare Manuscripts and Books’ at the Art Gallery, Shergarhi Complex in Srinagar. Speaking at the event, he stressed the importance of rare manuscripts and books as essential windows to the past, offering valuable insights into the region’s rich history, culture, and intellectual traditions.
Highlighting winter readiness, Bidhuri assured the people that the administration has sufficient reserves of essential supplies, including diesel and petrol, capable of sustaining operations for up to seven days in case of unforeseen circumstances. “There is no need to worry. We have ensured ample preparedness, and even during strikes or emergencies, the situation will remain under control,” he said.
Addressing safety concerns, particularly regarding children using scooters, Bidhuri urged parents to prioritize their children’s security. He mentioned that steps are being taken to enhance safety and awareness, including the organization of specific programs. “Parents must ensure the safety of their children. We are taking action to address this issue and organizing programs to create awareness,” he said.
The Divisional Commissioner also commended the Archaeology and Archives Department for its dedication to preserving Kashmir’s historical and cultural legacy. He encouraged people to take pride in their heritage, noting that it serves as a cornerstone for progress. “We must be proud of our history and showcase it to future generations. Initiatives under the Smart City Project, such as retrofitting and illuminating historic buildings, reflect our commitment to preserving heritage,” he added.
Speaking on electricity and water resources, Bidhuri highlighted that recent rainfall had improved water availability, which would bolster electricity production during the winter months. “We are closely monitoring electricity production and distribution, and our teams remain on high alert to ensure uninterrupted power and road connectivity during the harsh winter,” he said.
He emphasized that teams are prepared to manage snowfall and other winter challenges to ensure that essential services remain operational. “We are on our toes and will ensure smooth winter operations. There is no need to worry,” he said.
