Computerisation of health institutions on anvil

JAMMU, Nov 3: To strengthen the system and introduce far reaching reforms in the maintenance of records of vital statistics, the Government has formulated a comprehensive plan for the computerisation of health institutions.
The issues regarding the implementation of the computerisation project in the health institutions were discussed at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Commissioner Secretary, Health and Medical Education, Manoj Kumar Dwivedi.
The Commissioner Secretary emphasised the significance of compilation of the vital statistics and their computerisation. Officers concerned were made aware of the fact that recording of vital information was imperative for improving service system in the State.
It was also told that the central assistance was also available and a proposal was also finalised in this regard. The proposal envisages implementation of ICT projects in two selected district hospitals, 4 CHCs and 10 PHCs, involving a total amount of Rs 6.56 crore, which was to be received by the State in phased manner over a period of 5 years.
“Presently, an amount of Rs 1.82 crore is approved and available with the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM). Software has been developed and Medical Superintendents and their assistants dealing with registration purposes have already been trained and records are being maintained accordingly”, the meeting was told.
Mr Dwivedi further said, “it should be made mandatory to ensure registration of vital events of IPD patients and till that time discharge certificate should not be issued.”
It was also informed that a provision has been kept in the software for private institutions also and Government Medical Colleges of Jammu and Srinagar would implement the programme within one month in the rural sector and urban areas.
The Commissioner Secretary further directed that Director Health Services, Jammu and Kashmir would issue a circular to stop manual registration and heads of GMCs and DHS would review monthly progress of the project.
“This would not only help us in streamlining the system but would also make it much convenient for the masses to get better services,” added Mr Dwivedi.
