JAMMU, Sept 1: Parbandhak Committee, Gurudwara Baba Chanda Singh Ji has expressed concern over the attitude of FIBA (China) for not allowing the Sikh players wearing turbans in FIBA Asia Cup tournament in Wuhan, China.
During a meeting held under the chairmanship of its president, Sukhbir Singh, the speakers condemned the move of the FIBA (China), saying that they are concerned about recent reports indicating that Sikhs are not able to participate in International Basketball Federation (FIBA) games while wearing a turban, which is essential to their faith.
The committee urged the FIBA to change this discriminatory policy, which is clear cut violation of international Human Rights. While terming it a barbaric and inhuman act the members urged the Prime Minister and Minister of External Affairs Government of India to take up the matter with the FIBA and Government of China.
The members of the Committee also appealed the international community and UNO in particular to immediate intervene in the matter so that Sikhs may wear their turbans and kirpans while travelling in the planes and performing their duties.
