Concern over water scarcity in Pochhal

KISHTWAR, June 21: Tilak Shan Shiv Sena president Chenab Valley has expressed serious concern over the water scarcity Pochhal (Thangam) area near here. He said water is supplied for 20 minutes only and the department has given direct connections through half inch pipe to some three to four influential families while other 200 families are suffering in the area.
He demanded immediate verification of illegal water connections provided to these influential persons from ground water right from ATM Bank Pochhal for which a complaint was registered in the office of Chief Engineer, Jal Shakti Jammu and the concerned Executive Engineer, Jal Shakti Hydraulic Division Kishtwar was also requested time and again to physically verify the illegal connection but despite of repeated request no action was taken in this regard and those paying water supply tariff have been totally neglected by the department concerned.
He also said that village Pochhal is one of the biggest village of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory based on two major Panchyats i. e Pochhal A-1 & A-2 with a population of more than 5000.
Shan said that village Pochhal is facing water scarcity since the villagers are not getting water supply from Naiegadh water supply scheme .He said Rs 54 crore have been spent on this Naigadh WSS which has failed to provide water supply to major portion of town Kishtwar and its adjoining villages which also needs an enquiry as funds worth crores of rupees have been drawn by the officials of the department on the name of the scheme.
