KISHTWAR, Jan 24: Expressing grave concern over the plight of the unemployed youth in Kishtwar and Doda districts, the civil society Kishtwar has urged the Government to provide special attention towards this backward and hilly area for development.
In a meeting here today convened by its member and senior Congress leader Shamsher Singh Bhandari it was said that hundreds of youth of the twin districts have become idle after the closure of work on Ratli Power project by the concerned company over six months back. The meeting reiterated its demand of resuming work on the project by engaging another company for the purpose. It also demanded that work on other power projects be taken up in hand as the Chenab Valley has a potential of generating over 20,000 mw of power. This will not only solve the power problem of the State but enable it to sell the electricity to other States. This way State can earn more revenue and unemployed youth can get jobs in these power projects, the meeting added.
The meeting also demanded four lanning of road from Batote to Kishtwar and development of all interior roads in the two districts to avoid frequent road accidents. It also demanded that due attention be paid in development of tourist and pilgrimage tourist spots in the two districts to boost the economy of the people.
