JAMMU, Nov 3: All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organizations has decided to defer the proposed gherao of Civil Secretariat on November 5 in view of the assurance of Advisor to Governor, Khurshid Ahmed Ganai.
The decision to this was taken in a meeting of the Confederation here today.
State president of the Confederation, R K Kalsotra while addressing the meeting stated that, Advisor to Governor, Khurshid Ahmad Ganai has suggested the Confederation to defer the proposed gherao of Civil Secretariat on November 5 and to meet him either on November 5 or November 6 in his Chamber as he would seek appointment for the Confederation’s meeting with the Governor and put forward their memorandum of demands before him.
Kalsotra further stated that State Executive Body of the Confederation in a threadbare discussions on this matter decided unanimously to meet the Advisor on 5th or 6th November as per his suggestion and to defer the proposed gherao of Civil Secretariat on November 5 for the time being. It was also resolved to decide, future course of action after meeting Governor and submitting memorandum of demands to him.
The main demands of the Confederation are acceptance of restoration of reservation in promotion, clearing backlog vacancies of SC/ST/OBC’s through SSRB and JKPSC only and immediate constitution of Committee for filling of these vacant backlog posts, implementation of Mandal Commission report in toto, Single OBC certificate be made valid in State as well as Centre, welfare schemes for Safai Karamcharis and constitution of a Committee on the lines of the Committee that has been constituted for enhancement of creamy layer criteria to look into the working conditions of these categories as well as to enhance their socio-economic status to bring them into mainstream, declaration of holidays on August 15 & January 26 for Safai Karamcharis ,providing uniforms to them on regular basis, opening of schools for them on the pattern of Police Public Schools and working mothers of the school going children should be given two hours exemption in morning from their job and many other community related demands.
Kalsotra further demanded, in reference to J&K Municipality Act 2000, representation must be given to SC/ST/OBC as Chairperson in Municipalities/Councils.
Others who were part of the meeting were Roshan Choudhary, Mohd. Shafi Bajjad, , Bansi Lal Choudhary , Sabar Choudhary , Darshan Banmotra Mohinder Pal, Sunny Kumar, Shafait Choudhary, Ramesh Kaith, Mohan Pawar, Sham Lal Bhasin, Sham Bhagat, Hem Raj Dogra, Ramesh Hans, Parveen Kumar and Tilak Raj.
