JAMMU, Mar 16: All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organisations held a peaceful demonstration at Ambedkar Chowk, Jammu and took a rally from there to the Divisional Commissioner’s office, Jammu to submit a memorandum of demands highlighting the issues faced by reserved categories.
They were opposing privatisation policy, seeking reservation in Excise Policy, reservation in promotions, age relaxation for SC/ST candidates, implementation of Mandal Commission report and clearing back long of the reserved categories.
RK Kalsotra, State president of Confederation, said that the motive of the protest was to expose privatisation and project long pending demands of the Confederation which were deemed just by the administration but were never fulfilled.
Kalsotra highlighted that there was a set of urgent demands which were submitted to Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha by the respective DCs by all the district presidents of the Confederation. He said that the memorandum was submitted by all the 10 districts of Jammu province and 10 districts of Kashmir province, where the protests were also organised by respective district presidents at the district headquarters. Mushtaq Badgami submitted the memorandum to Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, while RK Kalsotra submitted it to Divisional Commissioner, Jammu.
He said Confederation has met former Governor Satya Pal Malik, ex- LG GC Murmu and current LG Manoj Sinha regarding clearance of backlog but till date no heed is paid to the issue. Confederation demanded a special employment drive to fill backlog.
They said issue of implementation of 27% reservation for OBCs was also raised by Confederation but till date it’s not implemented, although 27% reservation for OBCs is provided in all other states. It is a discrimination against the people of J&K.
Kalsotra said in case, the administration lingers on, the Confederation will launch the phase two of this movement and continue to strive for rights of vulnerable sections of society.
Senior members Mohd Abdul Choudhary, Kulwant Singh, Narinder Singh Khalsa, Ishtiaq Bhatti, Sahid Saleem, Harasis Kranti, Capt Fateh Chand, Tarsem Mottan, Ashok Kumar, Sham Bassan and others were also present.
