SRINAGAR, June 12: All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organizations, J & K Chapter has served ultimatum to the Government on reservation in promotions.
The Confederation today organized one day convention at Tagore Hall in Srinagar in order to discuss the burning issues of reserved categories. The function was attended by large number of ST/SC/OBC activists. The Confederation had extended invitation to CM, DyCM and all ministers and Legislatures belonging to reserved categories, but only two MLAs of PDP Ch Qamar Hussain (Rajouri) and Raja Mansoor Khan (Karnah) reached in the function.
The speakers assails the attitude of all other ministers and MLAs of reserved categories who did not attend the function. Both the MLAs requested the office bearers of Confederation not to go for protest march as CM was supposed to attend the function but could not do so due to model code of conduct. However, they assured that issue of reservation in promotions will be raised in the House on Tuesday.
The president of the Confederation, RK Kalsotra stated the history of inclusion of reservation provisions in the constitution for social, educational and economic upliftment of downtrodden strata of the society and explained how these three factors are inter linked for the upliftment of those who have been facing social exploitation. He criticised bureaucracy for not defending the case in the court.
BL Bhardwaj, general secretary expressed resentment against the Govt’s failure in providing reservation in adhoc appointments, contractual appointments, ReTs, ReZs, ICDS projects, J&K Bank Ltd, other organizations and in recruitment on need basis under a well hatched conspiracy at the highest level to deny the reserved categories their constitutional right.
Ch Mushtaq stressed the need of unity among the reserved category people to achieve the common goals and demanded that reservation in promotion should be restored. Memorandum with various demands was also submitted to the Govt
Senior members Nazir Ahmed Khatana, Miraz-u-Din Kassana, Abdul Rashid Bhat, Ashiq Batal, Mohd Ramzan Khan, Ch Roshan, Kuldeep Kumar, Ram Krishan Verma also spoke on the occasion.
