JAMMU, Mar 25: Demanding 27 percent reservation for OBCs and highlighting other demands for due share of the Dalit community, a peaceful protest march towards State Assembly was taken out in the city by All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organizations.
Led by national chairman of the Confederation, Dr Udit Raj and its State president R K Kalsotra, the protesters also submitted a memorandum to the Government highlighting their various demands, which included reservation in Rehbar and need basis services, special recruitment drive for SC/ST/OBCs to fill up the backlog in reserved categories, roster based seniority and promotion, strict implementation of Prevention of Atrocities Act and permanent resident rights to the Refugees and to residents of Valmiki community who were brought to the State from Punjab in the hour of crisis in 1957.
While addressing the protesters, Dr Udit Raj gave a call to all the people for getting united to fight the nonchalant attitude of the Government. He stressed that Confederation would leave no stone unturned to get the Dalit community its due rights, which have been granted by Dr B R Ambedkar under the Constitution of India.
R K Kalsotra said that in case the demands enshrined in the memorandum are not met with in a time bound manner, the cadre must get ready to hold protests initially at tehsil levels and then to raise it to the district levels.
Others who addressed the protesters, included Begum Zahida Chowdhary, Sabar Chowdhary, Ramesh Sarmal, Lok Nath, O D Attri, Sham Lal Basson, Ashok Kumar, Haji Saif Ali, Qureshi, Ahsan Ali Gandhi, Ashaq Ali Watal, Anisa Gul, Narendra Kesar and Chowdhary Farooq Ahmed.
