JAMMU, Mar 10: The two day national conference on ‘Biodiversity Conservation and Pollution Control- Challenges and Strategies’, organized by the Department of Environmental Sciences, Jammu University, concluded today.
A K Singh, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Forest Department, J&K Govt, was the chief guest on the occasion while Dr C M Seth, former Chairperson, SPCB, was the guest of honour. Prof A K Raina, Convener of the conference and Head, Department of Environmental Sciences, presented detailed conference report.
More than 108 research papers, categorized in eight different themes and nine technical sessions on oral and poster mode, were presented in the two day course of the conference.
A K Singh emphasized that conservation of biodiversity is of utmost importance as it has an intrinsic value that is worth protecting regardless of its value to humans. He also highlighted the enormous range of benefits that the biodiversity provides to human beings.
Dr C M Seth, in his address, impressed upon the scientists and scholars to take forward their research from the traditional laboratory research to the field. He promised his full support and guidance to the department on all endeavors related to the academic and outreach activities.
Later in the valedictory function, prizes were given to the best paper presenters under Oral and Poster presentation Category. Dr Deepika Slathia, organizing secretary BCPC-2016, announced the names of the best paper presenters. The first prize was bagged by Nazia Rasool, second by Jyoti Sharma and third by Raman Jasrotia under poster presentation category. Under Oral Presentation category, the first prize was won by Kulvinder Kaur, second by Rozy Kundra and third by Poonam Kundan.
Dr Neeraj Sharma, Incharge IME, Bhaderwah Campus, proposed the formal vote of thanks.
