Conference on ‘Mathematical Science & its Application’ begins

JAMMU, Jan 19: The Department of Mathematics, GGM Science College, Jammu,  is organizing  a two- day national conference on Mathematical Science and its Applications,  in collaboration with Department of Science and Technology, J&K, from today.
Dr  Anju Bhasin, Vice Chancellor, Cluster University, Jammu, was the chief guest in the inaugural session of  the conference, which was also attended by  international scientist, Dr M  Punnosamy from Indian Statistical Institute, Chennai, faculty at IIT Chennai,  Dr  M K  Jyoti, former Dean Sciences  and Executive Member Indian Sciences Congress, Kolkatta,  scientists and researchers from IIT Delhi, IIT Indore and faculty  from different  universities across the country.
In the inaugural session, Dr  Satinder Singh, Principal, GGM  Science College,  emphasized that Science College was committed to the development of researches in Science and Technology  and such conferences provide a platform to both the students and scientists to discuss the latest trends and ideas in sciences.
The keynote speaker, Dr  S  Punnosamy, called  upon developing scientific temper among the students. He also said that we need to put in  sincere efforts in spreading true knowledge and rationality for the progress of the society. He expressed his happiness over the enthusiasm shown by researchers from Jammu & Kashmir.
Dr  M K  Jyoti, delved upon the contributions of faculty of GGM  Science College, Jammu since 1930’s. He also talked about the heritage value of Science College.
Dr  Anju Bhasin, stated that such endeavors will promote scientific temper and critical ability among young generation.
In the second session of the conference, College Magazine “TAWI” Special  Science Edition-II, brought out by Dr Monika Sharma and her team was released by Dr  Asgar Hassan Samoon,  Principal Secretary to  Higher Education Department  J&K Govt.
Prof  Vinus Sharma, co-convener of the conference,  also spoke on the importance of Mathematical Sciences in the present century.  His speech was followed by a thorough introduction of the concept and objective of the conference by the organizing secretary, Dr  Narinder Sharma. An Abstract Book of the conference was also released  by the dignitaries.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof  Dileep Raina, HoD Mathematics and convener of the conference while the programme was conducted by Prof  Shalini Rana.
