JAMMU, Feb 15: Three days conference on Science & Technology, Commerce and Society 2019 organised by DIT University, Dehradun entered second day.
The inaugural session was conducted yesterday at Vedanta auditorium and it was graced by chief guest Dr Prakash Chauhan, Director IIRS, Dehradun.
Dr RC Goel, Chief Advisor General to the Chairman, Ravi Shanker Chancellor, Dr KK Raina, Vice Chancellor and Convenor of the Conference, Pro Vice Chancellor Brig M Srinivasan and other dignitaries along with 400 participants across the country graced the occasion.
The program started with lamp lightning by all the dignitaries followed by welcome address delivered by the convenor of the conference, Dr KK Raina.
The theme of the conference was expressed by the Chancellor to the audience. The opening session was delivered by the chief guest Dr Prakash Chauhan, Director IIRS, Dehradun on the topic “Eye In The Sky”.
The speaker highlighted about the utilization of science and technology for society. He also highlighted ISRO and IIRS contributions in different sectors. He advised that younger generation need to look into sustainable means and their contributions to protect life on planet.
Dr SS Negi, former Director IIRDE delivered a scientific talk on vision sensors for defence and security. He enlighten audience on technological stages on the development of night vision devices like image intensifiers, goggles, binoculars etc. and contributions of IIRDE for development of such visual sensors and also emphasized on various applications on defence, surveillance, disaster system etc.
The third session was addressed by Dr Anjan Ray, Director- IIP on Fuel for future. During his talk he emphasized on the technology for development of bio diesel.
Lastly, the panel discussion was conducted on sustainable development with four eminent panellist. Dr BK Joshi, Ex. Vice Chancellor, Kumaun University moderated the session, Prof AN Purohit, Ex. Vice Chancellor, HNB Garhwal University and Padamshree awardee, Dr Lalit Pande, Founder, Uttarakhand Seva Nidhi and Padamshree awardee and Prof Somnath Ghosh, Ex-Dean (Academics) IIM Kashipur.
Prof BK Joshi moderated the discussion on the topic of sustainable development by posing the question on sustainability and difference between growth, need and want. Dr Purohit stressed sustainable development pertaining to ethics of society.
Dr Pande emphasized that honesty is required intellectually for better sustainability, while Dr Ghosh supported the need of sustainable technology for development through trained youth of India but it should be economic and durable.
