Cong activists protest against BJP Govt on stamps issue

JAMMU, Sept 26: The leaders and workers of Congress Party today held strong protest demonstration against the decision of the Modi Government to cancel postal stamps of former Prime Ministers Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.

A large number of PCC leaders including Raman Bhalla, Mula Ram (Both former Ministers), Kanta Bhan, Ravinder Sharma, Anil Chopra (DCC president), Indu Pawar, Shiv Kumar, Vikram Malhotra and many others assembled at Shahidi Chowk near PCC office and held strong protest demonstration. They were shouting slogans against BJP led NDA Govt, Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the decision to cancel the Postal stamps of top Congress leaders including freedom fighter Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru and martyrs Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.

Besides raising loud slogans against Prime Minister, they also burnt the effigy of Modi Government to express their anger. They were carrying banners and placards in their hands. This protest programme was held under the leadership of DCC Jammu Urban president Anil Chopra. They alleged that BJP led NDA Government has shown most disrespect to the martyrs national leaders of the country by indulging in such act. They termed decision of BJP Government as politically motivated and vindictive.

As the Congress workers and leaders in the shape of strong rally moved towards Residency Road and Raghunath Mandir Chowk, they were prevented by the strong contingent of J&K Police. The peaceful demonstrators were also addressed by a few senior leaders on the occasion. They condemned the decision of the Government. They alleged that BJP Government was pursuing the politics of hatred and narrow vision.

Prominent among others present on the occasion included-Namrata Sharma, Manmohan Singh, Shiv Dev Singh, Shashi Sharma, Rajni Balla, Hari Singh Chib, B B Gupta, Jai Singh, Sukhdev Choudary, Dr Ramakant Khajuria and M L Malagar.
