JAMMU, June 3: The District Congress Committee (Urban) Jammu held protest demonstration today against the BJP-PDP Coalition Government for its total failure to provide basic amenities of life like drinking water, electric supply and ration to the public and price hike of petrol, diesel, pulses and other essential commodities.
Former Minister and PCC vice-president Raman Bhalla and DCC Jammu Urban president Anil Chopra were leading the protest march. A large number of Congress activists assembled at PCC office Shahidi Chowk in the morning and started protest march towards Residency Road and Raghunath Mandir Chowk. They were shouting slogans against PDP-BJP Government for total failure to provide basic amenities to the general public.
They said that due to long and unscheduled power cuts people from various areas like Rehari, Bakshi Nagar, Sarwal, Janipur, New Plot, Roop Nagar, Bhagwati Nagar, Paloura, Talab Tillo Bohri, old city and other areas of Gandhi Nagar constituency are facing acute shortage of electricity supply and water. The people have been left to suffer while the elected representatives are least bothered about the public sufferings. They also burnt the effigy of Coalition Government.
Raman Bhalla while speaking on the occasion criticized BJP and its leadership for their total surrender and lack of strength over the issues of people of Jammu region. He said the leaders of BJP have failed to represent the people who gave them heavy mandate to safeguard their interest. He questioned the BJP for its weakness is behaving as a mute spectator over the rights and interests of people on various issues for their lust of power.
He said that the people have right to know as to what happened to the promises made by the BJP for more than six decades to the people of the State and the nation to remove the Article 370, grant citizenship to the West Pakistan Refugees, sealing the borders to check any sort of infiltration and crush the militancy with iron hand by strengthening the hand of security forces.
Anil Chopra in his address asked the functionaries of the District Congress Committee Jammu Urban to go to people at the grass root level, listen to their problems and bring the same to the notice of senior leaders of the party. He said that being in opposition, it is our duty to highlight the problems of people. Presently, the people are facing lot of hardships due to prolonged scheduled and unscheduled power cuts.
Prominent among those who participated in the protest included BB Gupta, ML Malagar, Sukh Dev Singh, Dr Ramakant Khajuria, Ram Prakash Magotra, Sunil Kumar Chopra, Mian Nazir Ahmed, BS Mastana, Naresh Maini, Chanchal Popli, Kirtan Singh, PS Chouhan, Sushil Sharma, Vinay Sharma and Pradeep Bhagat.
