Cong asks Govt to establish wheat procurement centres

JAMMU, May 21: JKPCC has urged the Government to set up wheat procurement centres in all blocks and tehsil HQ and other such desired localities in the entire Jammu province to give benefit to the farmers instead of middlemen.
Reacting to reports from different areas about the lack of such facilities by the Government, JKPCC chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma expressed resentment over the failures of the Central and UT authorities in taking requisite steps for the welfare of farmers who are already suffering a lot.
He said it is unfortunate that the Government only announced the minimum support price (MSP) of wheat without making any arrangements for the procurement of the same to the disadvantage of farmers and benefits of middlemen.
He questioned if it is the deliberate attempt by some higher ups in the Government to befool the farmers as announcement of MSP without the process and facilities for procurement is meaningless and the Government is fully aware of this.
The party demanded that the Government should announce the places of establishing grain (wheat) procurement centres along with dates of procurement immediately and give wide publicity to the same for the knowledge of farmers.
