SRINAGAR, Jan 13: PCC vice president and sitting MLC, Muzaffar Hussain Paray has claimed that despite party debacle in State, Congress party has done better in Kashmir and it has lost some Assembly seats with very low margin.
In a press statement issued here today, Mr Parray admitted that Ghulam Nabi Azad made a good contribution to the economic development of the State during his tenure as Chief Minister of the State, but he maintained that Congress party made great progress after Prof Soz took over as PCC chief.
Mr Parray pointed out that in the recent elections, Congress Party had established a large vote bank in Valley especially in North Kashmir and party lost some seats with very narrow margin at Doru, Gurez, Beeru, Kokernag, Uri, Sangrama, Baramulla, Sonawari, Sonawar, Lolab, Pampore, Tral and Homshalibug. The party also did comparatively better in down town Srinagar. Mr Parray claimed that credit of this all goes to PCC president Prof Soz.
Mr Parray said, ” I feel dismayed on the situation of fragility of the political system that the recently held elections have yielded on ground, much to the disappointment of the people.”
He pointed out that corruption should have been the bigger issue during recent elections. He said Accountability Commission, Information Commission and the Vigilance Commission could not succeed to reform the system although well intentioned people manned these institutions. There are several factors responsible for the shortcomings, he maintained.
