Cong empowered Panchayats, done justice with Dalits: Mir

JAMMU, Jan 7: Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ghulam Ahmed Mir today said that Congress empowered Panchayats and also provided justice to Dalits and other down trodden members of the society.
Addressing meeting of Congress Scheduled Caste Wing here at PCC office Jammu today, PCC chief exhorted the party leaders belonging to the Dalit community to educate the masses about the role of the Congress party for the oppressed and depressed classes and asked them to raise their voice against the injustice and discrimination by the BJP Govt.
Mir said that Congress believes in the inclusive policies especially to uplift the deprived sections of the society. He said that it was the result of the implementation of 73rd and 74th amendment in the state that SC/ST and women have got reservations at all levels in Panchayat Raj institutions in the state like other parts of the country. He said that it was Congress party’s vision to empower the deprived sections and give them due representations in the democratic institutions through 73rd and 74th amendment.
The meeting threadbare discussed the issues of various sections of SC Category and the sufferings of these people. The meeting decided to hold a provincial level convention of SCs on February 3 to highlight the issues of SC and raise their voice over various aspects of their problems.
Senior leader Mula Ram said various other measures were adopted from time to time by the Congress party to bring these sections to the centre stage of democracy and politics and all institutions in democracy. Unfortunately these sections were exploited and mislead by various political parties for vote bank politics. Now these sections realize that they were befooled and Congress party is the real well wisher of the deprived sections from the very beginning.
The meeting was attended by former ministers Raman Bhalla, Gurbachan Kumari Rana, Ravinder Sharma (ex-MLC), Kanta Bhan, Ex-MLAs Faqir Nath & Ashok Dogra besides other prominent leaders of the party from all over Jammu province. It was organized by SC Cell under the chairmanship of Prof Gharu Ram, Ex-MLA.
Prominent among others present included Bodh Raj Bhagat, Munshi Ram, Balbir Bali, Som Raj Heer, Ricky Dalotra, Pankaj Bhagat, KC Bhagat, Jagdish Raj and Kewel Krishan. Excelsior Correspondent
