Cong Govts were mute to terror and turned blind eye to poor: Shah

INDORE, July 30:

In a no-holds-barred assault on the Congress in general and erstwhile Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in particular, Union Home Affairs and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah alleged on Sunday that the scourge of terrorism wreaked havoc on India during Dr Singh’s tenure.

Addressing a BJP Booth Convention in election-bound Madhya Pradesh’s commercial capital, the visiting dignitary said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made the country secure in stark contrast to the situation when (former Congress president) Sonia Gandhi and Dr Singh held the reins. Pakistan-sponsored extremists entered our territory at will, sprayed bullets and returned. The Centre did not even murmur in protest. However, when the dastardly attacks were perpetrated in Uri and Pulwama, our foes forgot that the BJP was in power and not ‘mauni baba’ Manmohan. Our surgical strikes blew the militants to smithereens.”

Claiming that Mr Modi unfurled the Indian banner across the globe over the past nine years, the Minister said that the slogans by thousands of people in favour of Mr Modi in America, Japan, France, Africa and England actually translate into respect for in excess of 130 crore Indians.

“Is Kashmir ours or not? Should Article 370 not been abrogated long back? The Congress placed Art 370 in its lap. When the abrogation was eventually effectuated, the Congress and other parties stiffly opposed the move! In Ayodhya, Shri Ramlala was residing under a tent.

For 550 long years, numerous individuals attained martyrdom for Him. The Congress kept the Ram Temple issue pending and resorted to diversionary tactics. Our Prime Minister made the nation progress in every sphere and there has been particular emphasis on places of worship.

The Congress remained in the saddle for decades but turned a Nelson’s eye to the indigent. Mr Modi is the messiah of the impoverished,” Mr Shah said.

Touching on the development sector, he furnished a bevy of figures while referring to the novel coronavirus vaccine, funds to cultivators and purchase of crop from them, the Jal Jeevan Mission, Ayushman Bharat, monthly supply of foodstuff, the Ujjwala Yojana, PMAY, electricity, irrigation, education, SC/ST welfare, industrial development, National Highways, rail and air connectivity, solar power and toilets.

Heaping sarcasm on ex-chief ministers Digvijaya Singh and Kamal Nath; the leader labelled the former as “bantadhaar” and the latter as “corruption Nath”.

“When Mr Nath was in charge, he did not even forward farmers’ names to the Centre with regard to schemes and stooped to the extent of placing on the backburner the programmes started by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan during his earlier tenure.

Taking of commissions became rampant and 18,000 officials were reassigned under the ‘transfer industry’,” said Mr Shah who commenced his 29-minute-long speech by bowing to Rani Ahilyabai Holkar and averred that Mr Modi is taking the queen’s noble work forward.

Speaking on the occasion, Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said, “There was a time when during discussions regarding terrorism at international fora  subsequent to Pakistani ultras perpetrating incidents on our land  half the countries would support Pakistan. Now, whenever militancy is discussed, the world sides with Mr Narendra Modi and Pakistan stands alone.”

In the words of Mr Chouhan, “What would have happened if the novel coronavirus struck during Congress rule? Would a vaccine have been readied?”

“The Congress has posted bogus surveys in social media. Its dispensation (in this state) did not fulfil poll promises vis-?-vis agrarian debt waiver and employment opportunities,” BJP General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya alleged.

Earlier, Mr Shah offered worship at Lord Parshuram’s birthplace Janapav.
