JAMMU, July 24:  Congress leaders and workers held a strong protest demonstration and burnt the effigy of Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh, joining dharna of the AIIMS Co-Ordination Committee besides disrupting the movement of traffic at Tawi bridge, here today.
Several senior leaders accompanied by a large number of party workers including women, youth and students assembled near Press Club, Jammu today morning and burnt the effigy of Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh. They were carrying pla- cards and raising slogans against BJP leaders and State and Centre Governments, for their failure to fulfill the commitment of procuring written orders for restoration of AIIMS in Jammu by or before July 20.
The protestors lodged strong resentment against the Centre and State Governments, especially the BJP for surrendering the rights of the people and betraying the people of Jammu region. They marched towards the venue of the dharna at Tawi bridge and joined the AIIMS Co-ordination Committee for disrupting the movement of traffic. Hundreds of Congress workers and senior leaders held a sit- in, at the Tawi bridge on both sides for lodging  their strong protest.
The protestors led by former Minister and senior vice president Sham Lal Sharma, former ministers Mula Ram and Raman Bhalla; Kanta Bhan (vice presidents); Ravinder Sharma-(chief spokesman PCC), Manohar Lal Sharma, Manjit Singh, Vikram Malhotra, Ch Shah Mohammad, Manmohan Singh, Namrata Sharma (all general secretaries), Anil Chopra –president DCC Jammu (Urban), Suman Bhagat, Girdhari Lal Chalotra, Shiv Dev Singh, Kuldeep Raj Verma, Maheshwar Singh (Members PCC Executive), Indu Pawar (president State Mahila Congress), Pranav Shagotra ( president PYC) and Uma Shanker Pandey (Secretary IYC).
Addressing the protesters Sham Lal Sharma, Mula Ram and Raman Bhalla lashed out at the BJP and its ministers and legislators who betrayed the people even after written commitment to fulfill the demand by July 20. They said that it is shameful for the BJP and its leaders who breached the trust of the people, even after a fixed deadline as per written commitment and have no moral right to stay as ministers or at their present positions held by them in public life. It has exposed the real face of the BJP and its leaders who have no moral courage and values and tried to cheat and mislead the people with a view to sabotage and weaken the movement, on the eve of 72 hours bandh call on June 18.
Extending full support to the Co-ordination Committee for intensifying the struggle, senior Congress leaders declared that the Congress would further strengthen and intensify the movement to take it to the logical conclusion, till the AIIMS is achieved for Jammu.
Prominent among others who participated included Neeraj Gupta, Pawan Raina, Shashi Sharma, Sobha Singh, Shamsher Singh Chib, Ashok Sharma, Thomas Khokhar, Manjeet Singh Jatt, Nadeem Niaz (all Secretaries PCC); Hari Singh Chib, Ch Sukh Dev Singh, Sanjeev Panda, Pardeep Singh Parihar, Vijay Malhotra, Jai Singh, Kulbushan Sharma, Pankaj Basotra, Jawahar Lal Koul, Uttam Singh, Raj Veer Manhas, Satish Sharma, Naresh Sharma, Paramjeet Singh and Chander Shekhar.
