Cong leader attacked by Sarpanch, others

RAMNAGAR, Aug 1: Pradesh Youth Congress leader R S Pathania was allegedly attacked by a Sarpanch and his associates at village Pardai in Majalta area of Ramnagar this evening.
Reports said the incident took place when Mr Pathania, son of senior Congress leader B S Pathania was returning to his home at Dema late this evening. The Sarpanch Panara, Rajesh Kumar and his associates including a police constable stopped his vehicle at around 7.30 pm and attacked him with iron rod and lathis. They threatened and abused the Congress leader and then escaped from the spot leaving Mr Pathania in a pool of blood.
A large number of people gathered there on the spot. They shifted Mr Pathania to PHC Majalta where doctors provided first aid and then referred him to District Hospital Udhampur. He had received injuries on nose, shoulder and other parts of body. The people including Congress workers then came out on the road and demanded arrest of the Sarpanch and others involved in the attack.
Talking to Excelsior late in the evening, the injured Pathania said that he was going to his house at Dema in the evening and when he reached near Pardai village, Sarpanch Rakesh Kumar of Panara accompanied by a police constable stopped his vehicle and attacked him with iron rod and sticks. He identified other accused as Constable Rajesh Koushal, Sonu, Labbu and Ranju of the same village.
Sarpanch Rajesh Kumar, however, claimed that his Maruti car was hit by the vehicle of R S Pathania and it was followed by tiff and clash between the two sides. He claimed that he received injury on his hand in collision. The police however, said that counter FIRs have been lodged in this regard and the investigation has been started.
