JAMMU, Oct 26: Former minister and senior vice president Sham Lal Sharma and PCC chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma visited border villages in Akhnoor and Nowshera sector and interacted with the people affected with the Pakistani firing.
Sham Sharma visited village Gharkhal in Akhnoor, which is very close to the border and he met families affected by cross border firing and also took stock of the situation prevailing there. The people narrated their woes. They alleged that BJP- PDP Govt is not taking concrete steps to ensure their safety and security.
The Congress leader said that village Gharkhal is located very close to the LoC and the people of this area always feel insecure as when there is a cross firing between India and Pakistan, they become the major target. There are about 792 families in this village. The previous Congress-NC Government had chalked out a plan for rehabilitating these people at two places namely Sanghani and Purkhoo migrant camp. He said that present Govt should relook this proposal and initiate action immediately
Former minister said that consequent upon constant firing and mortar shelling there has been colossal damage to the property of these inhabitants. He urged upon Govt and civil administration that the people living on the border should be rehabilitated to safer places and adequate compensation for the loss of property, injury and livestock may be given. He also demanded that 5 marla plots be given to the border people as proposed by previous Govt.
Meanwhile, Dy Chairman Legislative Council Jahangir Mir and Ravinder Sharma (Ex-MLC) chief spokesman PCC toured LoC villages of Sarya, Kalsian and adjoining areas of Jhanger in Nowshera sector today and took stock of the people’s problems.
During tour they interacted with the people of border area who told them tale of their woes. They said that they are paying heavy price because they are border residents. Whenever there is firing across the border, they are the first to face the enemy bullets. Due to heavy shelling by the Pakistan army, their children and their cattle have been suffering a lot. It is not the question who fired more bullets but the question is that how many people suffered in this firing.
They demanded allotment of 5 marlas plots in their favour at safer places, because they have to leave their home and hearth time and again due to border firing. If Govt provides them plots, they can construct their shelters and at the time of disturbance at the border, they will shift themselves there and live peacefully.
