JAMMU, Jan 18: The Congress, which misused the Constitution for personal gains never recognized the contributions of Dr B R Ambedkar and is today shedding crocodile tears to mislead the people on the slogan of ‘Samvidhan Bachao’.
This was stated today by Sat Sharma (president, Jammu and Kashmir BJP) while chairing a meeting of party activists at party headquarters, Jammu.
The J&K BJP president said that history stands witness to the fact that Congress, which ruled the country for decades together after independence, never deem it necessary to pay respect to Dr Ambedkar or honour him for his splendid contribution in framing the Constitution of the country and sidelined him. He said that on one hand Congress undermined the contributions of Dr Ambedkar, on the other hand, misused his Constitution for their political gains.
Sat Sharma said that it is most unfortunate that the Congress never considered Dr Ambedkar for any award but showered the country’s highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna, on Jawahar Lal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and other Congress leaders. “Today Congress is portraying itself as protector of Constitution, which is nothing but a desperate attempt to win trust of the people”, Sat said.
Sharma said that it was at the instance of BJP that Bharat Ratna was given to Dr Ambedkar in 1990 when it was supporting VP Singh Government from outside. When Narendra Modi took over as Prime Minister of India, various initiatives were taken to honour Dr Ambedkar by identifying and constructing memorials at important places associated with various stages of the life of the Architect of the Constitution.
He said Modi Government declared April 14 as national holiday on the birthday of Dr Ambedkar and referred to the day as ‘Equality Day’ (Samarasata Diwas) to honour his legacy and contributions. It also built Panchteerth to keep his legacy alive.
“Instead of playing cheap politics and enacting drama in the name of the Constitution, it would have been better had Congress gone to the public and sought apology for misusing the Constitution and giving ill treatment to Dr Ambedkar,” Sat said.
