Cong must contest Assembly elections on its own: Vakil

Srinagar, May 23: Sr Vice President J&K Pradesh Congress Committee, former Minister and Member AICC Abdul Gani Vakil today said that Congress must contest Assembly elections on its own as forging pre-poll alliance has already proved disastrous for both Congress and NC.
Vakil said Congress will face electorate on its own performance, pro-friendly policies and historical works which were started by Ghulam Nabi Azad during his regime. He said people are interested in one party rule in order to avoid uncertainty and are too much fed up with sentimental slogans which are aimed at exploitation and nothing else. People are interested in the development and corruption free society.
He said Congress will work hard ensure that the congress party can form the next government on its own so that menace of corruption is uprooted and the system could be set right and era of uncertainty is over, which hampers developmental process. Vakil was addressing party workers convention at Tulsi Bagh Srinagar.
Vakil said another reason for drubbing in Lok Sabha elections was surrendering of CM post to NC that too for full term. He said this factor proved detrimental to Congress base in J&K. Mr. Vakil said rotational Chief Ministership was an ideal arrangement that could have benefitted both Congress and NC.
While addressing the gathering Vakil hailed Nehru Family and said that it is this family which despite all odds always stood for Jammu & Kashmir at every point of time whether it was during natural calamities political upheavals (20 Years of turmoil) and this is the main reason that our State never confronted problems of poverty or hunger at any stage since accession with India.
A resolution was passed in the convention in which full faith was expressed in the leadership of  Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi and it was reiterated that people of J&K had acceded with secular Indian which is only being symbolized by Nehru family. Congress workers of this state will leave no stone unturned in strengthening the party and the hands of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and assured full support to the Nehru family.
Besides others who addressed the gathering include Sr. Congress Leaders Haji Mohammad Afzal Khan, Pandit Brij Nath Nehru, Bashir Ahmad Sheikh, Javed Ahmad Masoodi and Tariq Ahmad Mir.
