Cong, NC spreading canards against Modi: BJP

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Dec 7: BJP has lambasted Congress and National Conference (NC) for spreading canards against the Party’s Prime Ministerial candidate, Narendera Modi that 454 Sikh families wee evicted by him from Gujarat who were settled there by then Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri.
Talking to reporters here today senior BJP leaders Virenderjit Singh, Advocate Amrik Singh and Mohan Singh Chauhan termed these allegations totally baseless and false to malign the image of Mr Modi whose popularity graph is increasing day by day.
Perturbed over his growing popularity, the Congress and NC are spreading canards and misleading the minority Sikhs in the country, said Virenderjit Singh.
He said Gujarat Government has served notice to 784 families among 184 are Gujaratis, 512 belong to entire country and 164 were from Punjab and Haryana. Among these 164 families few are Sikhs, he added.
He said that in April 1973 then Congress Government in Gujarat had issued a notification that a non former can’t purchase the agriculture land in the State and these 784 families have given wrong affidavit and purchased the agriculture land which was proved after Gujarat Government ordered an inquiry in the matter, he added.
He said matter is sub-judice as these families had given wrong affidavit before the court of law. But there is no question of eviction or serving of notices to 454 Sikh families rehabilitated in Gujarat by Mr Shastri. Some of these families came to Chandigarh last month and addressed a press conference stating that they lead an honourable life in Gujarat and get same treatment which the members of other communities get, he added.
Accusing the Congress of being involved in 1984 anti Sikh riots at national level and NC for 1989 anti Sikh riots in Jammu, Mohan Singh Chauhan said that the two parties instead of punishing the guilty responsible for these riots and killing of minority Sikhs are making a false allegations against Mr Modi. He said these parties are not talking of opening fast track courts to provide justice to victims of 1984 anti Sikh riots.
