*Stages protest against anti-farmer, new land laws

JAMMU/SRINAGAR, Oct 31: Congress today observed Indira Gandhi’s 36th death anniversary ( Martrydom Day) as ‘Kissan Adhikar Divas’ at Srinagar, Jammu and other parts of the J&K and Ladakh and flayed Modi Govt for adopting anti-farmer policies. The party also held protests at Jammu and some other places against anti-farmer policies and new land laws in J&K.

Pradesh Congress also paid rich tributes to India’s ‘Iron Man’, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel on his birth anniversary and recalled his services to the Nation.
The JKPCC in a meeting of senior party leaders and other functionaries at Srinagar today paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 36th death anniversary, which was observed by the Party as ‘Kissan Adhikar Divas’.
JKPCC president GA Mir who presided over the meeting lauded the selfless services and sacrifices of Indira Gandhi to the Nation and said her immense contributions to the inclusive development of Nation shall always be remembered. He said India made remarkable achievements under the strong leadership of Indira Gandhi, who even scarified her life for the integrity and prestige of the Nation.
Mir said India lost a great statesman and a leader of masses under the assassination of Indira Gandhi, whose dream was to make India as powerful country. “We are observing the death anniversary of our beloved leader as Kissan Adhikar Divas to extend full support to farmers (Kissans), who were feeding the entire country by dropping their sweat and blood to ensure that people did not sleep empty stomach, Congress Party vows to intensify its fight against the anti-farmer policies of Modi Govt,” Mir said.
Those who addressed the meeting included JKPCC vice president Abdul Rashid Dar, Gulzar Ahmad Wani, Bashir Ahmad Magrey, SS Channi, Shameema Iqbal, GN Mir Lasjan, Abdul Gani Khan, Farooq Mir, Zahid Hussain Jan, Imtiyaz Parray and others.
In Jammu, the Congress leaders and workers paid floral tributes to Indira Gandhi at India Chowk near Sri Maharaja Gulab Singh Hospital and then took out stong protest march against new land laws in J&K and anti-farmer policies of Modi Government.
In fact Congress observed Indira Gandhi’s Martyrdom Day as “Kissan Adhikar Diwas” and organized Satyagrah at all district headquarters of the J&K UT.
JKPCC vice president and former minister Raman Bhalla along with senior functionaries of PCC, DCC and other senior leaders of the party including frontal organizations offered floral tributes to India Gandhi. The rich tributes were also paid to Sardar Patel, one of the greatest stalwarts of the country, on his birth anniversary today. His services in the freedom struggle and in the strengthening and consolidation of the country after independence were recalled.
To mark the occasion party organized a strong protest demonstrations at all the district headquarters. Congress leaders and workers led by Raman Balla marched towards the Civil Secretariat, raising slogans to protest against the recently amended J&K land laws and new farmers bills passed in the parliament. Scuffles were witnessed between peacefully protesting Congress workers and police force. The protestors were stopped by the police near Shalamar Chowk, where Bhalla addressed the workers and media.
Senior leaders Yogesh Sawhney, Kanta Bhan, Balwan Singh, Rajnish Sharma, Manmohan Singh, Indu Pawar, Ch. Gharu Ram, Rajesh Sadotra also highlighted the achievements of Indira Gandhi and described her as an iron lady.
Prominent among others present included Ashok Dogra (EX-MLA), Dr Rashid Choudhary, Suresh Dogra, Pawan Raina, Shashi Sharma, M L Malagar, Thomas Khokher, Sanjeev Sharma, Dwarka Choudhary, Gourav Chopra, Ritu Chowdhary, Sobat Ali, Col. Swarn Singh and others.
DCC Jammu Rural under the leadership of former minister Mula Ram and DCC chief Hari Singh Chib organised another function to pay tribuites to Late Indira Gandhi and Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel. They recalled the services of Indira Gandhi and described as iron lady. PYC president Uday Bhanu Chib also spoke on the occasion.
PYC also organised a separate function in this connection in Raipur- Domana and paid tributes to Indira Gandhi.
At Dyala Chak in Kathua, former DyCM Tara Chand, former Minsier and senior leaders Jugal Kishore Sharma, Dr Manohar Lal (DCC chief), Ex-MLCs- Subhash Gupta & Naresh Gupta; besides Devinder Singh Bindu and others paid tributes to Indira Gandhi. They recalled the services of Late Prime Minister for the party and country and described her as a bold leader. They also demanded restoration of statehood to J&K.
Similar functions were held at Udhampur, Rajouri, Doda, Kishtwar, Reasi, Poonch, Baramulla, Anantnag and some other parts of J&K UT.
Meanwhile, senior NPP leader Prof Bhim Singh also paid tributes to Late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and described her as one of the greatest and bold leaders in the world.
